There are two FCCMA ethics sessions scheduled. The first session will be held February 27 in Palm Beach Gardens. ICMA’s Director of Ethics Martha Perego will present and facilitate an interactive session on today’s challenges for local government managers.
The second session will be held March 13 in Tallahassee. Special Counsel for Open Government Pat Gleason from the Attorney General’s Office and General Counsel and Deputy Director Chris Anderson from the Florida Commission on Ethics will combine for an informal and informative session to specifically discuss ethical requirements, the Commission on Ethics jurisdiction when violations are reported, and the process the Commission pursues in addressing complaints. The session will also cover the Florida Sunshine law and the process involved in addressing those complaints and issues.
Don’t miss these informative sessions. If you need the registration forms and or you want to register online, go to: https://fccma.org/onsite-training/.
If you are unable to attend one of the ethics onsite training sessions or the pre-conference session on ethics that FCCMA is offering to get the required four-hours, then see the list below.
The Florida League of Cities University and the Local/Regional Leagues are co-sponsoring Ethics Continuing Education courses for municipal officials beginning in 2015. The League will offer this training at the annual conference and other statewide meetings, as well as partner with every local league to schedule a local workshop. These courses will be standardized in presentation and will be taught by city attorneys. This four-hour course is designed to comply with the requirement for four hours of ethics specific training under Chapter 112. 3142, Florida Statutes, effective January 1, 2015. This will also satisfy the FCCMA ethics requirement. For information on when a course will be offered near you, contact the local league contact listed on the event date, or Carol Westmoreland at cwestmoreland@flcities.com, 850-701-3608.
