The College of Design, Construction and Planning panel will explore a wide range of initiatives currently underway throughout Florida communities. UF’s researchers have applied data to urban environments as well as rural communities in Florida. Topics discussed will include projects with a rural community in resilience, recovery and establishing community identity after a natural disaster; projects involving the impacts of land-use and climate change on municipalities; historic preservation and documentation through new technologies; and how communities can support sustainable development.

University of Central Florida, School of Public Administration – “Turning Dreams into Reality: Implementing Municipal Strategic Plans”
Presenter: David Mitchell, Assistant Professor
The strategic planning process is often long and complicated, leaving many frustrated when this hard work never generates the intended results. Often, poor implementation is to blame. Dr. Mitchell will examine financial, managerial and external factors that lead some municipalities to successfully implement their strategic plans when others fail, offering a number of practical recommendations for local government officials.

Registration Information
This program is designed for public administration practitioners, but elected municipal officials are welcome to attend. There is no cost for city officials and staff, but pre-registration is required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, November 7. This is a free event; however, if you register for the symposium but do not attend, your city will be invoiced a $45 no-show fee. Cancellations must be received by Friday, November 7 to avoid the fee. Registration transfers are accepted.
