With just over five weeks until the FCCMA Annual Conference, you might have the registration information email tagged to your “to do” list. You might be debating whether you can afford to attend (both financially and in terms of your time). I realize that fiscal constraints are still evidenced across the state, but am hopeful that you will see a good value for your dollar when you look at the program. We talk a great deal about networking in this profession. Most of you have indicated in surveys that this is your highest ranked benefit of membership. Your networking returns a wide range of results: new ideas, comparable situations, venting, explaining, coping, best practices, laughter and learning. One member likened it to the best therapy he’d ever received.
I don’t want to shortchange the learning that will take place; however, your planning committee has put together a timely theme and great workshops divided around the theme’s core concepts. Managers often comment that they learn best from each other. This is a great opportunity! Plus, we have terrific keynote speakers for this year.
In a profession known for high stress and limited acknowledgement for hard work, I hope you’ll view this conference as a chance to alleviate the stress and enjoy the acknowledgements of your peers. No one knows your job’s demands (the highs and lows) better than your colleagues! Join us in Orlando – I believe you will be glad that you did.
