When Mike Cernech took office as president last year, he and I spoke about the need for continuity in order to provide valuable programs and opportunities for our membership long-term. In addition to continuing the good work already in motion, the goals I have for this year have been derived from the principles of our organizational foundation, as well as from the input of the membership. The purpose of FCCMA is to:
- Drive a culture of ethical behavior, leadership and accountability.
- To enhance professional management in local government through the sharing of experiences and ideas.
- To provide support to members at all career stages.
- To promote the principles of local self-governance.
- To promote research and analysis as a guide for improvement and innovation in local government.
In order to fulfill these purposes, the board will adopt a work program that will allow the committees, members and partners to work collaboratively to:
- Enhance the quality, quantity and diversity of professional development offerings through the state.
- Utilize technology to increase the methods by which training can be obtained.
- Support the next generation of leaders by expanding mentorship opportunities, by creating a scalable “how to” guide for internship program development and remaining engaged with our public and private state universities.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase membership-including county members.
- Identify member service delivery gaps.
- Celebrate the diversity and professionalism of our membership.
I encourage all members to participate in a committee or provide your input to the board or to the FCCMA staff. I believe that it’s true that you get something out of what you put into it. My goal and the board’s goals are to support and give all members opportunities to contribute. Your input and contributions are vital to the ongoing success of this association. I am honored for the opportunity you have provided me and I look forward to working with each of you in the upcoming year.
