It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your 2018/2019 FCCMA President and lead the Board of Directors. Your FCCMA Executive Committee, District Directors and At-Large Directors have all committed to make the 2018/2019 board year FCCMA’s best ever. The bar has been set very high, year after year each President and Board has raised it. As a result, FCCMA is the best state association for city management professionals in the nation. Being your President, amongst all the professionals who belong and participate in our organization, is a very humbling experience. I will do my best, along with the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, to exceed your expectations and improve upon our already great Association.
I have established several goals for the year and will work diligently to accomplish them. Implementing our revised strategic plan and focusing the Association on the future is vital to our continued success and will allow us to continue to demonstrate the excellence which has made us a premier organization. In accordance with the goals of ICMA, we will focus this year on how to improve upon our diversity as an Association. We value our members and want to further encourage diversity in our association and our chosen profession by promoting inclusivity and involvement through enhanced member engagement. Involving as many members as possible in our committees and providing the best training opportunities in each district will be the key to further improving member satisfaction.
Our commitment to the next generation of city management professionals will not waiver as we look for additional ways to involve young professionals and our ICMA Student Chapters in the programs we offer, the work we do and at our annual conference next year. Embracing diversity not only focuses on who we are as an organization, but it means embracing diversity of thought as well. We will look to hear new voices as we engage not only the students and young professionals, but seek out new ways to get our members more involved in our great association. Looking for better ways, as an association, to promote the 360 degree care of our members will be a priority. As city management professionals we give a tremendous amount of ourselves to the organizations, communities, and people we serve. We do it often at our own expense and the expense of those closest to us. We need to work as an association to better care for our members so we can continue to promote our chosen profession as a meaningful and fulfilling career choice.
As your President I am available to you anytime. Call me (954) 597-3510 or email me Michael.cernech@tamarac.org anytime and I’ll do what I can to assist you. Again, it’s an honor to serve you and here’s to another great year for FCCMA.
