An Interactive Webinar Series
The Florida Institute of Government (IOG) is pleased to announce the following webinar series: From Supervisor to Leader: Road Map to Success. This interactive webinar series will be held on three consecutive Thursdays: May 11, May 18, and May 25, 2017, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon (EDT.)
Typically a three-day long program taught in a seminar setting, the Institute has adapted the Supervisor to Leader curriculum into a series of three, two-hour interactive webinar sessions to accommodate those who may not have the time, travel and training funds, or ability to participate in the traditional program. All that is required is an internet connection and a phone line.
These sessions will provide a critical review of contemporary approaches to leadership; offer more effective interpersonal and organizational communication strategies; and present different methods and measures for increasing employee performance and satisfaction. A Certificate of Completion, listing six hours of continuing education, will be issued to those completing all three modules.
Participants are encouraged to register for one, two, or all three of the “Supervisor to Leader” webinars – your choice, your training – at your convenience.
Leadership that Works: Thursday, May 11, 2017 (10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, EDT)
This webinar will include a brief history of leadership and review current leadership theories and practices; with an emphasis on contemporary approaches to effective leadership. Questions such as “Should a supervisor be concerned with their leadership style?” and “What does the research teach us about leadership?” will be addressed. Additional cutting-edge research findings will be presented on the importance of being an effective leader and how different styles of leadership can impact employees’ health, job satisfaction and productivity.
Communication and the Human Side of Work: Thursday, May 18, 2017 (10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, EDT)
This session will provide a new look at communication – not as a “soft” skill but as the most essential “human” skill to be developed in the workplace. A communication model based on True Colors will be utilized to enhance understanding of the various styles and aspects of interpersonal and organizational communication – with an emphasis on how a supervisor might work with diverse employees to facilitate more effective relationships and organizational potential. The webinar will also include ways a supervisor can determine what motivates employees so that adjustments in communication strategies can be made to provide more meaningful and productive work relationships.
Performance Management: Thursday, May 25, 2017 (10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, EDT)
This module will focus on managing employee performance more effectively. Topic areas include performance management methodologies; how to analyze performance problems to determine their root causes; a review of how to work with poor performers and the importance of feedback and coaching. Discussion will also explore steps for appropriate and efficient delegation strategies – to improve overall organization performance and productivity.
The entire series will be taught by nationally recognized leadership and organizational development expert Dr. Sarah “Tippy” Amick.
Dr. Amick is a master facilitator of adult learners with over 20 years of experience of working with governmental organizations and building individual excellence. She has served as the training director for multiple state agencies, been on the faculty at the Florida State University for over 15 years, and travels nationally to provide training on leadership, communication, and team building.
