The Florida League of Cities is holding a summit tomorrow at the Atrium Executive Center, Florida Gulf Coast University, 8695 College Parkway, Suite 1181 in Fort Myers.
The saying “the Buck Stops Here” applies more than ever when municipal officials are
asked to make policy decisions about liability and risk for city employees, programs, and
even themselves. What can an elected official do to ask the right questions or make sure
questions are asked? Speaker Scott Blaser, director of risk control for the Florida League of
Cities, is an experienced HR generalist. He specializes in risk management and safety for public
entities. He will share lessons learned from past elected officials’ experiences – both good and
bad – and what measures you can take to make sure all your experiences are on the good side.
Day-to-day city business is handled by the city staff; however, elected officials must ensure the
strategic mission of the city is met, and that includes the important role of setting policy.
This workshop will also give participants an opportunity to network among themselves for best
practices and innovations.
