Good day,
Warmest of greetings from the northeast corner of the United States. As we enter the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to write for two reasons.
First, I want thank you for all the wonderful things you do for the communities you serve and our profession. Serving as a municipal/county leader today is more challenging than any other time in modern memory. Despite those challenges, citizens wake up every day proud of their hometowns and the communities they live in because of what you do. They know their elected leadership is tackling the difficult issues when our state and federal leaders seem not to be. While they may not always agree or understand, they have confidence in the professionals that serve them daily and know their communities are indeed well run!
Second, I want to wish each of you a very warm and relaxing holiday season. I encourage you to take some time to spend quietly with your family, friends and loved ones. We all understand the personal sacrifices they make because we have elected to follow our passion in local government leadership. I know I have never taken their support for granted but sometimes forget to express how appreciative I am. The holiday season reminds me to share my gratitude.
On behalf of my family, the entire ICMA team, from your colleagues on the Executive Board to our dedicated and talented staff, please accept our warmest of wishes for the upcoming holiday season and a New Year filled with prosperity and success!
Sincerely,
James A. Bennett, ICMA President
