As part of a structured review of the ICMA Code of Ethics, a web chat was held on May 14 for members to provide input on the relevancy of Tenet 7 to the profession, and to identify the types of political activity that undermine public confidence in professional administrators. Nearly 150 members joined the web chat, titled “ICMA Discussion Forum on What Political Neutrality Means Today.” Lee Feldman, Chair of the Committee on Professional Conduct, facilitated a lively and engaged group about Tenet 7 and its relevancy to the profession. Members who were unable to attend can view the presentation here, and are encouraged to provide their feedback online at the Grancius website until June 22. Please spread the word to your network that now is the time for members to offer their input about what types of political activity are ok, where the profession should draw the line, and what political neutrality means to them. Many thanks to ICMA Strategic Partner Granicus for providing the platform for this interactive online conversation.
