The deadline is approaching to submit nominations for the FCCMA awards. All submittals must be electronic, not larger than 1mb and received by Carol Russell at crussell@flcities.com by 5:00 p.m. on February 25, 2013. Late entries will not be considered. A confirmation email will be sent after the award is received.
The 2013 Award Categories are as follows:
Career Excellence recognizes an outstanding local government administrator who has fostered representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of local elected officials and by consistently initiating creative and successful programs. Eligibility: Voting member of FCCMA with a minimum of 10 years senior-level management experience. Requires the endorsement of a past or present elected official or a voting member of the Association.
The Michael J. Roberto Award for Career Development will be presented to a voting FCCMA member who has made a significant contribution to the development of new talent in professional local government management (internships, mentoring, etc.). This award is a memorial to Mike Roberto, a past president of the FCCMA, and a recognized leader in the development of public management careers.
An Assistant for Excellence in Leadership will be presented to a local government management professional who has made significant contributions toward excellence in leadership while serving as an assistant (regardless of title) to a chief local government administrator or department head. Eligibility: FCCMA member and endorsement of CAO. Must be a full-time assistant reporting to a chief local government administrator and who has been responsible for significant administrative duties for at least one year (not including internships in conjunction with an academic program).
The Honorary Award is awarded to an individual who has served the profession or the Association in a manner or to a degree that merits such recognition. The nominee must have made a considerable contribution either to the improvement of local government and local government management, to the public’s understanding and appreciation of responsive and well-managed local government or to the development of future managers in the profession.
To be eligible for consideration for an Honorary Award, an individual must meet the following criteria:
- Contributed to strengthening the structure of local government;
- Demonstrated leadership in increasing citizen understanding of the governance and management of local government;
- Implemented initiatives that brought about improvement and development of local government managers; and/or
- Developed programs, produced publications, or made general career contributions that have enhanced the responsiveness and effectiveness of local government.
A nomination for Honorary Award can be made by any voting member of FCCMA. Any individual who is given an Honorary Award will receive complimentary membership to the Association.
