Each year at the FCCMA Annual Conference, FCCMA recognizes outstanding individuals who have fostered representative democracy, who have made a significant contribution to the development of new talent or an assistant who has made significant contributions toward excellence in leadership while serving as an assistant or department head. These awards are: Award for Career Excellence, the Michael J. Roberto Award for Career Development and Assistant for Excellence in Leadership.
Last year the Association presented the first Richard (Dick) Simmons Lifetime Achievement Award to Ken Hammons, former city manager of Panama City. This award is presented to individuals who served the profession or the Association in a manner or to a degree that merits such recognition. The nominee must have made a considerable contribution either to the improvement of local government and local government management, to the public’s understanding and appreciation of responsive and well-managed local government or to the development of future managers in the profession. The award was named for Dick Simmons who was a Florida pioneer in the profession, a past president, range rider emeritus and a 60+ year FCCMA member. The Richard (Dick) Simmons Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to an individual who has given to the profession in a likewise manner similar to Dick Simmons.
